Preventative Dentistry

Children’s Dentistry

As soon as your child turns two, it’s time to visit Complete Dental Coorparoo for an oral health assessment. This visit is kept fun, making sure we encourage that kids enjoy coming to the dentist. Starting early means your child will get the proper education and begin looking after their teeth from an early age, preventing future treatment that could be potentially unpleasant for a young child.

Custom-made Mouthguards

A blow to the mouth can cause extensive damage to teeth and gums, impacting the aesthetic of your smile. Protection is essential! Mouthguards are an important preventative measure for anyone involved in sports such as rugby, boxing and hockey during games and practices. We’ll tailor professionally fitted mouthguards to ensure a high level of protection and comfort. Pick your favourite colors or show support with your team colours.

Digital and Panoramic Radiography

Radiography is a useful tool to identify and screen problem areas, assisting in the diagnosis of dental diseases. We do not take radiographs unnecessarily. If we feel they are needed, we’ll fully explain why. The use of digital radiographs means minimal radiation exposure for our patients.

Fissure Sealants

Teeth can naturally develop deep fissures that are difficult to clean and may decay easily. Fissure sealants cover these areas to prevent your teeth from breaking down. They’re often recommended at a young age to stop decay before it starts.

Examination and Education

Our comprehensive examination looks at your mouth as a whole. Your dentist will recommend treatment options tailored to your specific needs. All your questions are answered before the start of treatment, giving you advice on how to look after your teeth. Most importantly, we’ll see you every six months to make sure you’re on the right track.

Preventative Tips from Complete Dental Coorparoo

At Complete Dental Coorparoo, we keep an open dialogue about oral hygiene with our patients. During each visit, we’ll talk to you about what you can do to prevent future problems and ensure your continued oral health. We recommend that you schedule checkups every six months.

Some of the basic steps include brushing, flossing and gum care.

Proper Brushing

Proper Brushing

Most people know that brushing twice a day is essential to your oral health. After breakfast in the morning and before going to bed at night, spend at least two minutes brushing. The bristles of your toothbrush should be aimed directly at the gum line, which is where plaque begins to form. The toothbrush is then moved in a circular motion, clearing away harmful substances.
Flossing Habits

Flossing Habits

To further remove plaque and food, flossing between your teeth should be done at least once a day after brushing. Take a piece of floss and use a gentle, slow sawing motion between each tooth. There are several types of floss and dental tape on the market. If you need help deciding which is right for you, we’ll be happy to discuss this with you at your appointment.
Gum Care

Effective Gum Care

Brushing and flossing are vital components in keeping your gums healthy. Your gums should be brushed as well as your teeth, and don’t forget your tongue, which can also house bacteria. If you clean your teeth properly with brushing and flossing, you don’t need to use a mouthwash routinely. However, if you’d prefer it, we recommend alcohol free mouthwashes.
