Dentistry Was a Perfect Fit

Dentist Coorparoo Dr. Alice Yang

Dr Alice Yang

With a father who works as a cardiologist and other family members in the field, Alice knew early on that she wanted to be in the medical profession. She wasn’t that familiar with dentistry, however, until she began at Otago University in New Zealand for her studies. Her parents were supportive, encouraging her to enter the dental field that they felt would be a perfect fit. Alice enjoys working with her hands and performing practical work, as well as interacting with people. “I like finding out what someone’s problem is, then helping them solve it.”

She completed her Bachelor of Dental Science, returning to school to obtain her Master of Clinical Dentistry in Implant Dentistry from Griffith University in 2012.

Serving the Needs of All Ages

Alice is well-versed in all aspects of dentistry, including restorative, preventative, implantology, endodontics and prostheses. She belongs to study groups in the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas and is a member of

  • The Australian Dental Association
  • The Australian Osseointegration Society
  • The Australian Society of Endodontics

She is constantly learning, staying up to date with the latest in techniques and equipment.

“There’s always more to learn, and I’m excited to see what’s around the corner in dentistry.”

Outside of the office, Alice enjoys travelling, eating different foods and snowboarding, which she picked up the bug while living in New Zealand. She has a young son that takes up most of her spare time.

Choosing a Hands-on Profession

While in his last year studying molecular biotechnology, David had to decide whether to continue with Ph.D. studies or to go into dentistry. Though he enjoyed his laboratory work with the company that developed the HPV vaccine, he missed the personal interaction that Petri dishes and bacteria couldn’t give.

He’d always liked hands-on crafts like woodwork and miniature model making, so dentistry represented the perfect melding of his enjoyment of artistry and interpersonal communication. He commenced his dental education and obtained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Otago University, graduating with honours.

“I like doing the best quality work possible and seeing how happy my patients are when their dental work is completed.”

Joining the Coorparoo Community

Since completing his education, David has attended continuing education courses on topics such as composite restoration, aesthetics, full mouth rehabilitation, local anaesthetic, dentistry and ergonomics and has attended rural branch meetings. “It’s better to have more tools in your box so that your patients have choices.”

David is recently married, he and his wife have made the move from New Zealand to Australia in 2016 to be closer to family. In his spare time, he likes to relax with his wife. They’re both foodies who enjoy cooking and eating. David loves enjoys the warm weather in our area, often getting outside to go for walks.
