Fillings in Coorparoo

In the past, metal, amalgam fillings were routinely used to fill a cavity. Not only are these fillings unsightly but they could present some health problems. At Complete Dental Coorparoo, we offer patients a range of filling options.

Composite (White) Fillings

We like these types of fillings for two reasons: they are durable, and they are aesthetically pleasing. Unlike metal fillings, composite fillings are white so they can be matched to your tooth colour. They also can be used to bond a weak tooth in place.
There are, however, some disadvantages to composite fillings. They are more expensive than amalgam fillings and take longer to place. Also, they are not ideal for patients who have many cavities.

Gold Fillings

Strong and highly durable, gold fillings last for a long time. The downside, of course, is that they are more expensive than other options.

Glass Ionomer Cement Fillings

This tooth-coloured material bonds to the enamel and dentin of the tooth. A primary advantage of using this type of filling is that a small amount of fluoride is released over time. As a result, decay under and around the filling can be prevented. We also can match the material to your natural tooth hue. Glass ionomer cement fillings also can be combined with composite to create a more durable filling.
Though glass ionomer cement fillings are inexpensive, they often have a shorter lifespan than other types of fillings.
