Extractions in Coorparoo

While it’s always ideal to retain your teeth, there are times when extractions are necessary. Here are some primary reasons why an extraction may be in order:

  • Wisdom teeth
  • Gum disease
  • Denture preparation
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Decayed or damaged teeth
  • Damaged tooth structure

We feature an OPG machine on-site that allows us to take all necessary images to see if an extraction is advisable. Teeth can be removed on the day.

What Is the Process Like?

For your comfort, we will provide a local anaesthetic to numb the tooth. If you are anxious, we also can administer sedation. We just ask that you arrive 45 minutes before your appointment time. Here’s what you can expect next:
1) Your dentist will apply pressure to remove the tooth.
2) If necessary, stitches will be used to facilitate the healing process.
3) We will provide you with instructions to follow at home.

How Long Will It Take?

Though every case is different, in general, it will take 20-60 minutes to remove a single tooth and an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to remove up to four wisdom teeth. When multiple teeth need to be removed, you also may have the procedure performed over two or more visits.

Why Should Impacted Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?

When wisdom teeth don’t surface completely into the proper position, they are considered to be impacted. If they are not treated, a variety of problems can arise: decay within the wisdom tooth, damage to a neighbouring tooth, discomfort or pain, bad breath and more. Our highly skilled dentists can assess whether your wisdom teeth require removal.
